Tenex or Needle Tenotomy is a minimally-invasive ultrasound-guided mechanical treatment which stimulates the healing response in disorganized and non-healing tissues.

The technique was first described in the early 1980s and has been demonstated less post procedural pain and faster recovery than traditional surgical approaches per Barnes et al 2015.

Tenex has a 90% success rate for treating tendinopathies and per Boden et al 2019 and Kirschner et al 2021 demonstated similar efficacy as platelet rich plasma (PRP), but unlike PRP it is covered by insurance in office for tennis or golfer’s elbow or in an outpatient surgical suite for other tendons when conservative treatments have failed and the patient wishes to avoid or is not a candidate for traditional surgery.
